Why a Defective Hip Replacement System Is So Dangerous
A hip replacement can be an ideal solution for those suffering from serious hip pain and deterioration. However, unsafe and defective hip replacement systems might lead to more harm than good.
If the hip replacement features a metal-on-metal design and the metal pieces rub against one another, it can release pieces of the metal into the patient’s body. As such, the patient might experience metallosis, also known as metal poisoning. Symptoms vary from patient to patient. Some experience tissue necrosis, or tissue death.
Metal shards released into the body can also cause inflammation, damage to the joints and bone, infection, and loss of mobility. A defect can also cause extreme pain, and the patient may require a secondary corrective surgery as a result of the device’s failure.
