Hip Replacement Lawsuit

Physicians advise many people who suffer from hip pain or loss of function, especially elderly adults, to undergo hip replacement surgery. But there are plenty of cases where the hip replacement system is defective. Many patients suffer serious harm because of it.

Cordisco & Saile LLC helps victims of serious hip replacement complications and other defective medical devices take legal action against the manufacturer or another responsible party. Call us to talk about your case – 215-642-2335.

Why a Defective Hip Replacement System Is So Dangerous

A hip replacement can be an ideal solution for those suffering from serious hip pain and deterioration. However, unsafe and defective hip replacement systems might lead to more harm than good.

If the hip replacement features a metal-on-metal design and the metal pieces rub against one another, it can release pieces of the metal into the patient’s body. As such, the patient might experience metallosis, also known as metal poisoning. Symptoms vary from patient to patient. Some experience tissue necrosis, or tissue death.

Metal shards released into the body can also cause inflammation, damage to the joints and bone, infection, and loss of mobility. A defect can also cause extreme pain, and the patient may require a secondary corrective surgery as a result of the device’s failure.

Hip Replacements Subject to Previous Recalls

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has recalled a number of hip replacement systems or parts over the years. Some of the most frequently referenced recalls involving hip replacements are below.

  • DePuy ASR TM XL Acetabular System
  • Stryker Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II Modular-Neck Hip Stems
  • Smith & Nephew R3 Metal Liners of the Acetabular System
  • Zimmer Durom Acetabular Component
